Patients are Watching You, But What’s Their Compliance IQ?

We’d all agree that, in this age of technology and instant information, patients are savvier than ever. They know when you should be washing your hands, changing your gloves or how you should be handling their privacy rights. It doesn’t matter what their compliance IQ, because whether they are right or wrong, their perception is their reality.

What is your perception about your compliance programs—OSHA, HIPAA and Risk Management, and how does it compare to reality?” Historically, compliance consisted of a partially-completed generic manual and occasional OSHA staff training.

Just this month, I was in a practice and noticed they had posted the wrong OSHA Work-Related Injury and Illness form. From their perspective, they had done everything they were supposed to do. In other words, their intent was good; however, there was either a knowledge gap or someone gave them the wrong information.

If that type of error occurs regarding a long-standing OSHA requirement, how does one even begin to keep up with an ever-changing regulatory world? Who do you rely upon for expert advice?  How do you go about monitoring regulatory updates?

What if you became the qualified expert in your practice?  Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right”. With the right tools, education and support, it’s not as difficult as it sounds. The Institute for Dental Compliance and Risk Management can help reduce your frustrations and provide the peace of mind you need in this ever-changing regulatory world.
